Fiona Walsh is on the criminal legal aid panel in Kilkenny and the surrounding counties

Types of offences which people might be entitle to legal aid:
  • Assault
  • Drug possession
  • Theft
  • Sexual assault
  • Robbery
  • Burglary
  • Criminal damage
  • Arson
  • Careless driving
  • Breach of domestic violence Court orders
The types of offences for which the Court is unlikely to grant legal aid are as follows:
  • Public order offences
  • Drink driving
  • Drug driving
  • Driving without insurance
  • Driving without reasonable consideration
  • Speeding

There are however exceptions to this in that where a person has previous convictions and is at risk of a custodial sentence if they are convicted of an offence for which legal aid might not normally be granted they might in fact be entitled to legal aid.
